Dual Stack Lite

An important aspect when implementing or migrating to IPv6 addressing is the ability to provide seamless connectivity between traditional IPv4 networks and IPv6 networks. CGNAT provides several mechanisms that will help solve this issue.

One of them is Dual Stack Lite by encapsulating IPv4 addresses in IPv6 addresses, which in turn ensures the availability of IPv4 resources for the end devices in the IPv6 network. It is worth mentioning that such mechanisms as NAT44 and NAT64 allow providing address translation without the damage to performance.

DS-Lite (Dual-Stack Lite) is the NFWare vCGNAT operational mode which uses IPv6-only links between the provider and the customer. When a device in the customer network sends an IPv4 packet to an external destination, the IPv4 packet is encapsulated at the CPE in an IPv6 packet for transport into the provider network. At the vCGNAT, the packet is decapsulated and NAT44 is performed. Tunneling IPv4 over IPv6 is far simpler than translation, so the performance and redundancy concerns are eliminated in comparison to NAT64 architecture.

NFWare is one of the first IP routing technology companies to offer a virtualized CG-NAT and it is optimized to run on standard x86 servers and in hypervisor. Learn more about NFWare the high-performance vCGNAT. Request the datasheet via this page: https://nfware.com/virtual-cgnat
